Marc-Antoine Charpentier:
Messe de Minuit pour Noël
Te Deum

- Le prélude orchestrale sert d'indicatif à l'Eurovision

Jean-Philippe Rameau:
Les Indes galantes - Rondeau

Messe de Minuit pour Nöel (Midnight Mass at Christmas) is not perhaps the most profound of Charpentier's many masses, but it is without question the most charming, especially since most of its music is based on French Christmas carols.

The Te Deum by Charpentier has become known especially for its first movement, Prélude, as it is the signature tune of the European Broadcasting Union. The composition is now performed for the first time in Turku by an ensemble that includes rare period instruments, such as the serpent.
Before the concert, at 5 p.m., the French serpent player will give a presentation of the instrument in the Tarkk’ampuja Chapel.

Ave Maris Stella
Diego Ortiz: Recercada Primera

Another instrument that has not been heard before in Finland and that will now be in the orchestra is the "Chinese hat".

Musicians of the King's Road revives the tradition of musical soirées, Musikalisk Soirée, that were commonly held in the town in the 1800s. After the Great Fire of Turku in 1827 these concerts often took place at Societetshuset (Society House), nowadays known as the Turku City Hall. The City Hall is no longer a concert venue as it mainly functions as official reception rooms of the city and as meeting place for the city council. This first Soirée will, however, exceptionally be held in the von Troil Hall of the City Hall.

In the concert Musicians of the King's Road performs a typical 1800s chamber music programme. One of the performers is Beata Antikainen, finalist in
the XII Turku Cello Competition.
