Antoine de Longueval:
St Matthew Passion

Ristinpuussa Golgatalla (Stabat Mater dolorosa), Benjamin Sporon (1778)
Oi Jumalan Karitsa (Agnus dei), Nicolaus Decius (ca 1522)
On autuas, ken Jeesusta (Jesu dulcis memoria), Bartholomäus Gesius (1603)

The passion setting by Antoine de Longueval is considered the earliest composition based on the texts by Evangelist Matthew. The work was written more than 200 years before Johann Sebastian Bach composed his monumental passion for double choir and double orchestra. Longueval’s passion is archaic and beautiful, and at the same time a timeless interpretation of the best-known passion story in the world.
